A few weeks ago I went on a staff trip with pinecove after we finished winter-fest and I learned a couple things that I think are worthy of sharing.

We talked about what it means to live in authentic biblical community, not just christian community. How intentionality triumphs over fruitless and surface level conversations. Our camp director David, talked about 3 main questions we should be asking ourselves and the people we are in community with. These questions leave lots of room for depth and self reflection.

Here are the broken down questions he asked, my hope is that after you read these questions, you will feel convicted in some way.

1. How are you feeding your soul?

  • What are you reading about in the word right now?

Psalm 1:1-2 (NIV)

Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.

  • Who are you living in authentic biblical community with?

Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV)

24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

2. How are you feeding others?

  • Who are you counseling biblically?
  • Who was the last person you shared the gospel with?

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

3. How are you feeding your flesh?

  • What have you been struggling with right now / what are you in need of prayer for?

James 5:16 (NIV)

16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

Now that you’ve read these questions, I ask that you evaluate yourself and see where your heart is! Next, take it to someone you live in authentic biblical community with and ask them the same questions!

Thank you for reading 🙂

One response to “questions for authentic biblical community :)”

  1. So, this is VERY deep and I’m struggling with how to answer these questions.

    1) How are you feeding your soul: Christmas, the act of giving, this feeds me well, but only feeds me so long.
    2) How are you feeding others: I enjoy working with HomeTown Missions, giving my time to those in need. I MUST to reach out to them again very soon and get involved!
    3) How are you feeding your flesh: I am struggling with just this, being motivated to reach out to others to help. I find myself centered on ME and MY projects, and while that is a part of making a living, I need help remember it’s not all ME, but it feels so good to love on others when they are in need! I pray that prayer, that He will focus my attention the way he would have it. AMEN
