The last two years of me and the race have been probably the most confusing years ever but they have led me to trust the Lord and His faithfulness more than I have ever before. I applied for the race in 2019, its 2021 and this summer I will finally be going! A few months ago I told y'all that I was going to Peru, but surprise surprise for the 5th and hopefully final time I am relocated! I will be spending the first half of summer in Colombia!

I am so excited for what this summer is going to bring. In my time in Medellin, Colombia, we will be working with a ministry called Ciudad Refugio. Ciudad Refugio focuses on Children's Ministry, Homeless Ministry, Community Outreach, and Drug Rehabilitation Ministry. 

A little bit about our ministry from the race:

In the past, Medellin, Colombia has been a center of violence, drug trafficking, and gangs. In the past 30 years, the city has been making a turnaround, but there is still so much need for restoration here. Many families are still living with the effects of poverty, violence, drug addiction, and homelessness. Even prior to the pandemic, ongoing crisis in Venezuela has caused thousands of refugees to flee to Colombia to look for work. Most recently, coronavirus has caused a huge wave of unemployment, leaving many families in poverty and hunger.

Our ministry partner Ciudad Refugio has become a city on a hill focused on serving the city and meeting tangible needs. Serving as a church, a homeless shelter, a job training center, a drug rehab center, and many more, Ciudad Refugio is showing the love of Jesus and reversing brokenness in this city, especially to the families of displaced Venzuelans and Colombians living in the surrounding neighborhoods.
